BATTLEGROUND

Airsoft in the YubaCity / Marysville area.

I've been doing my own gearbox work for over a year now and haven't screwed them up yet. But for this build I will require...outside advice and opinion I guess. I'm putting together a sniper's AEG made from a ASGI G4a5 SP16 and so far ive got a 150+ft accurate range on a non windy day with .27 biovals. So what I'm looking for is more range...I shouldnt be in range if I'm acting as a sniper. Any advice would be helpful. I just looked at the holy grail for a DMR build and am gonna try some of those techniques before the next mission day. But any internal part advice or upgrade is most welcome and appreciated.

Notes: only upgrade so far is a 509mm KM 6.04 TBB and a firefly bucking.

If you put in a more powerful spring and a bore-up tune up kit, it would give you more power which would increase your range. You could also increase your barrel length but the longer the barrel the more friction you get. If i was making a sniper AEG I would also consider an active silencer (found on redwolf.com). A Systema Magnum motor might help.

Thats all I got hope it helps.

thankyou.

Forgot to add an upgrade. TM EG 1000 Max motor.

well other than a stronger spring and a torque up motor to increase fps you should put in a 6.01 tightbore. that will give more accuracy for longer ranges.
Hey if you are just going to use this gun as a DMR, you should consider a three shot burst adapter. It gives yoou a bit more realism and uniqueness but you lose full auto. They sell one for pretty cheap on Evike and have some really nice ones on Redwolf.
Is friction that much of an issue if your barrel is free of debris and well lubed?

Yeah I think it is, your BB's have to travel down a longer length barrel so it will so down a little. If your gun is shooting at a high FPS it won't make that much of a difference. Thats part of the reason field guns have a more powerful FPS than CQB guns.

Well thankyou all for advising me, this'll really help me and others out. This post is not just for my build but for others as well so they dont have to waste time and money trying upgrades that dont work.

Ok so been doin some research of my own as well and ive found that high fps isnt always best for a sniper (example TM i have one and its a pretty fair example). And power does not equal more range (example again TM). Found that out its three components 1) a stable and well sealed hopup 2) a not only clean but smooth barrel (over time use will "rib" the inside of the barrel) and 3) quality ammunition. Ill be adding more of what i find soon.

Also im making a write up of the process that i will post when the project is finished.

Your right, it's not about the FPS.

The most accurate AEG I have seen yet, is Kattiana's SR25. It has an FPS of around 380.

The internals are a set of torque up gears to pull an SP120 spring, and a 651mm tight bore barrel at 6.03. Stock on both the PSG1 and the CA25 are an extended cylinder/piston which allows for the use of the longer barrel without the 'piston suck'.

Her AEG can consistently hit a man sized target at 200+ feet. She can often hit at ranges of 250 feet. Not many but the bolt action rifles can do that. But then, bolt action rifles don't have a cycling piston either.

Sounds like you are putting together a fine DMR.

The role of 'sniper' is a skill beyond most Airsoft operators, however we all shoot at our targets from concealed positions when we can. Skilled DMs are very valuable to their teams, as are the Assault Troops, Riflemen, and Support Gunners.

Thankyou all for your advice.

I just spent 4 hours of the day cleaning and  check compression on the gun im making and ill be bringing it to the missions day this weekend. Id love to have people see it in action and offer any more advice after seeing it work.

This is what it looks like so you can identify it and me if you dont know me. Again looking forward to more tips and advice. ;)
I look forward to seeing it this weekend!
Just want to add that after doing some cleaning and adding a slightly higher spring yesterday it chronos 385-388 fps with .25s at JF paintball and airsoft. So that seems like a good sniper fps to me 380s. not super hot but not unfeelable.

Snipers don't have an FPS, but for a DMR or a sniper's AEG it's great.

Forward grips would be used for weapons with full-auto. Unusual for a DMR or sniper's weapon.
