Background:On 15.10.11, a military opera tion using US Army Rangers, USMC and USAF Combat controllers entered a purported insurgent stronghold in the Nangahar Province to exact reve nge for the killing of an entire Ranger team the previous evening. Dur ing the operation, not only did the US Task Force (code named Forlorn Hope) fail to stop critical intelligence from being removed from the p rimary objective, they were also unable to kill or capture a high valu e target, later to be confirmed as the local insurgent group’s handl er for either the Taliban or Al Qaeda. While both those are being revi ewed by military leadership, what is drawing Washington into the arena is the murder of two local villagers who, while being later discovere d to be part of the insurgent group and armed, were not displaying the ir weapons and the US soldier suffered minimal consequences. The world media, particularly Al Jazeera, have attacked the outcome and unrest is growing in the Province.\nCIA Operatives on station have reported a n increase in Taliban, Al Qaeda and just angry villagers arming and tr ying to sway support away from the Americans who up till this point ha d a strong influence due to humanitarian efforts.
