Airsoft community, it appears that the sport of Airstoft is under fire from well intentioned but miss-informed Senator Kevin deLeon.
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/11-12/bill/sen/sb_0751-0800/sb_798_cf...
The proposal is to turn our beloved airsoft guns into neon effigies of the real thing. The reasoning is that a police officer would not have shot and killed a holder of a Airsoft rifle had this "toy" been brightly painted. A tragedy one could all agree but the notion that the blame should be placed on said 'toy' appearance rather than user error and officer misjudgment.
A argument could be said that what is to stop a gunman from disguising their firearm to replicate a neon pellet gun?
Should a officer hesitate because said firearm is pink rather than gun metal?
The first response would be to sprout off profanities at such a notion.
It is unfortunate that Senator Kevin deLeon should use his time to argue the case of 'what ifs'. A better use of his time and tax payer dollars would be to look for solutions of immigration, education, and how about the budget (and lack of one on time!). I await the day we all must wear bubble wrap. Or perhaps they over look overeating because of the notion, "Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down" and get hurt.
The proper response would be to write your congressman, yea they might do nothing considering they are extremely efficient at waste. But never the less I would urge you to act.

Hey current updates for those who might have missed it:
The paintball association was completely opposed to the bill, but then they made a deal with De Leon to take paintball out of the bill so now the bill only applies to airsoft and paintball players are encouraged to support the bill now. keep in mind this renders the law completely useless and idiotic since paintball makes replicas as well.
Newest update is apparently at the hearing De Leon will be using dirty tactics to convince the people of his position that includes youtube videos (of false useage) to convince that airsoft guns are bad for the public especially with people under 18 and such.
De Leon has already used dirty tactics to try and keep people from calling and voicing their opinion and opposition to the bill

Chris, I hope you don't mind, I gave a shout out to our filed and Dr. Airsoft.
Gents and Ladies, if you can make it, June 14th, this comming Tuesday is the hearing at the capital.
Show your support, keep it respectable, and no camo or gun clothing at the hearing.
Ties and suits speak volumes!!!
Another good PSA

I encourage all to read and listen to all points against this bill.
The more informed you are the more clear you can voice your opinion.
Heck, I would even go so far as to register my airsoft gun and take a saftey course to show that we are committed to the safety of the community of Airsoft. Argue the case of funds helping to decrease the ever expanding deficit!
Here is the recent POCAST by Dr.Airsoft concerning bill sb798. Lots of commercials on the lead, however they have a great discussion with a local PD officer.

Lot of great comments (and some not so great). I think the Gregory Wong sums it up best.
If it is passed, all CA airsoft based brands and stores will be hit hard and in all essence wiped out. Meaning the sport will most likely not exist in the coming years. Id rather have stricter laws on age than a neon gun. Or at least classes like with realsteel firearms, cause apparently common-sense isnt given to all. Just like the song the government is gonna make us fight for our right to party.
