from what I've seen, shells have other problems that people don't like dealing with. Improper fits (pressure leaks causing lower velocity) and ejection jams. What is the construction of the shells? Having shells on the floor of a structure (or say at CQB City) could cause a slip hazard, and heck leaving your shells in the field could be an environmental problem.
I'm down for realism, but shells seem to be more hassle than they're worth. I know of no one who has a revolver (that said I can see someone bringing one Saturday...) and I think the only reason shotguns using shells as magazines are catching on is because they were the last weapon that lacked the realism the others had.

The difference is how they are ejected. In a real-steel weapon the shells are ejected using excess gas released by the bullet firing and the mechanics of the firing system. To recreate that in an airsoft gun would require a gas OR mechanical ejection system. About the best airsoft gun I saw with realistic ejecting shells was a 6mm airsoft cap gun. Each shell was loaded with a high powered cap and a BB. The AEG's mechanics were only used to fire the firing pin and move the bolt cover thus ejecting the shell. It was really neat but hardly practical.
Remember the operation of a real steel weapon is (generally) so much less complex than that of any airsoft weapon.

That sounds pretty cool! I don't see how they jam though. My real-steel shotgun doesn't jam, so they should make the shells and ejecting systems the same or very similar to their real-steel counterparts. The overall idea is awesome and it would be cool if this one fixed the jamming problems.
