Why do you think so many operators run M4 variants?

Is it because they are easier to work on? Or maybe because they represent an American military icon? Or maybe they just have the most amount of bolt-ons you can get for your AEG? Your thoughts?

I would assume it's a combination of the sheer amount of accessories available, the relative ease of maintenance and the familiarity of the gun. I can say as an AUG owner, I have waited a long time to see a decently priced RIS; not to mention that, in general, you really have to search for your upgrades. M4's seem to rule the roost.
I know I got mine because it is easy to work on, and has plenty of after market upgrades that are affordable and easy to install.
I would tend to think that most people carry M4s because that is what our military carries. I see most of the people at games staying with what they wear. If they are wearing US uniforms, then it makes sense that they stick with the US military rifle. I know that is what I carry.
M4, M16, and AK are the most recognized and most popular guns out there. there are a lot of guns that take m4 mags i also agree that M4 is the most for accessories and parts. Also there are a lot of variants such as the HK 416 that is basically and M4 with rails and different sights (that is basically the airsoft version the real gun has a few more goodies inside that make it look the same yet completely different) also like jango said if we are wearing US uniforms the only sensible thing would to have US armaments
There are literally thousands of external and internal upgrades for M4s and M16s, i think that the sheer availability of after market customizations is a huge drawing point for using M4/M16 variants. All of my teammates have an M4/M16 style rifle, so if one runs out of ammo, spare mags can be shared. Each person also carries an additional rifle/aeg that is of their own "style" and uniqueness.
i agree with the after market accessories and also the fact that so many operators run M4 mags that it is essential if you run out of ammo that your teamate can toss you an extra mag also the fact that one can make their M4 or M16 customized to their own liking there are so many variants too that it is hard to find some one with the same customized M4 just with standard parts

well i got mine bcus allways been a fan of thr m4 and plus i shoot real steal wit m4. and super easy 2 work on lol and so many things u can do 2 them lol. and what gilbert says has alot 2 do wit it 2.
I run two :P
they're just a damned comfortable gun. also mag sharing is a handy side effect of the common nature of the thing.
meh if i could ever afford one i would love to get the Tavor Assault rifle that Ares sells. It still takes m4 mags though so mag sharing is still perfectly reasonable. Also the Tavor looks sssooo nice, but it costs 500$ so I'll probably never own one until i get a real job lol.
