Thanks guys for all the advice. See mainly what im looking for is a sturdy AEG. I bought an Echo 1 G36C bout 2 years ago. All the internals are very brittle. The fire selector on the right side broke, breaking the safety as well. And the holding pins broke as i was taking it apart. Sounds like the M4 is a solid bet, but my second question is when you guys talk about upgrades. Are you talking externally like sights and hand rails, or internally like gear boxes?
Yeah i'd definitely start with an m4. I'd suggest The GI G4 series or the Echo1 series for something affordable, but works great out of the box. Had nothing but great experiences with both above companies. Really depends on your budget though
I suggest a P90, M15A4, MP5, or AK47. AK47 is a good out of the box gun. P90s and MP5s are nice because they are small and very maneuverable. M15A4 is a good gun do to all the upgrades.

These will give you some ideas, but if you ask me, I would say start with a M4 carbine.
