Background:On 15.10.11, a military operation using US Army Rangers, USMC and USAF Combat controllers entered a purported insurgent stronghold in the Nangahar Province to exact revenge for the killing of an entire Ranger team the previous evening. During the operation, not only did the US Task Force (code named Forlorn Hope) fail to stop critical intelligence from being removed from the primary objective, they were also unable to kill or capture a high value target, later to be confirmed as the local insurgent group’s handler for either the Taliban or Al Qaeda. While both those are being reviewed by military leadership, what is drawing Washington into the arena is the murder of two local villagers who, while being later discovered to be part of the insurgent group and armed, were not displaying their weapons and the US soldier suffered minimal consequences. The world media, particularly Al Jazeera, have attacked the outcome and unrest is growing in the Province.
CIA Operatives on station have reported an increase in Taliban, Al Qaeda and just angry villagers arming and trying to sway support away from the Americans who up till this point had a strong influence due to humanitarian efforts. US Army Ranger units in the area have also reported increased incidents of taking indirect fire while on convoy and the presence of IED/road side bombs.
To make sure we all have fun and nothing gets too bogged down, I am capping the event to 32 people, two sides of 16. (we are as of 10:00am on 5/21, at 11 registered)
Being a civilian volunteer is open to OPFOR registrants and will require a cover for your uniform (thrift store bed sheet cut like a poncho is acceptable). See Scramble's helmet cam video from IS1 for why this might be a fun option for you :)
Comment
I'll try to get them on the site, but I have two other people that will be coming who aren't on BATTLEGROUND yet (but they've been to BV)
Blazed, got you logged and ready to go.
13 days to get your registrations in. There's still plenty of room for both sides.
Also I just added the option to wear civilian clothes for the OPFOR side. Just Joe's OP this weekend inspired me to include it. Not all OPFOR will be wearing military uniforms right? Things to consider: poison oak, the terrain, bb's flying at you and other people's sensibilities. Lets try to keep logos, slogan and designs kid friendly (even though a lot of us are adults) and safe. tank tops may seem like a great idea, but that's more skin to get hit by bb's.
Excellent. Glad to hear you can hoof it around the field.
Gotcha logged.
