BATTLEGROUND

Airsoft in the YubaCity / Marysville area.

Its been nearly three weeks and I'm already planning my return. However, fully aware that for a while I may have more limitations than before, I'm looking at taking up the sniper role again. I figure I might be forced into having the patience to carry out this mission.

I would like suggestions on a good sniper or DM rifle. I looked at the A&K SVD...

It has a ridiculously long barrel, favorable reviews, looks awesome, and for $150 (plus mount and scope) is not to big of investment if when I'm back 100% I feel guilty for only using it occasionally (the reason I'm even looking at this approach is because I don't know exactly when I'll be 100%, just that I'm out for 3 months).

So, comrades, share with me your ideas. All guns except the AUG will be considered (sorry AUG runners, I think its an ugly gun). I'm even O.K. with buying a lower priced gun and upgrading it to long gun quality.

Thanks guys

i think that would be a good gun. the only thing i see wrong is your rig and the mag change. you could also go with the tried and true m14 or a CA 25 or maybe even an M16 so you don't have to get different mags
I got another gun I'm starting to drool over...Mauser SR Pro-Tactical at Shorty's. I've dealt with Shorty's and have yet to be disappointed. The price is good, as it comes with a scope and bipod. I just hope I can convince people to pitch in for it for me for Christmas lol.

As for the rig and mags, I'm comfortable changing stuff around and I will be carrying my UMP as a defensive weapon and I got nothing to support that yet.
Sarge is probably the Corps authority for Bolt Action Rifles. Dwarf if you can contact him.
DMR? . . . like Tank said upgrading an M14, CA25, M4 rifle.

The A&K SVD: ("sniper" rifles should not be full auto, . . . grrrr)
- Around $150
- Single shot bolt-action (A+)
- 450- 550 fps (with .20 gram)( uprgade to 170 spring recommended)
- Metal internals, Bolt assembly, Hop-up (hop-up accuracy suffers greatly on some models)
- Metal receiver, barrel assembly
- ABS handguard and stock
- Plastic 500 round high-cap magazine
- Compatible with after market scope mounts and upgrades

NOTES:
The hop-up is metal but has a lot of issues, there is talk of using L96 parts in the sniper rifle but there is a lot of speculation and very colliding opinions on what parts work best. It is recommended the user looks for themselves and do the research before buying any upgrades. A very basic start would be a tight-bore precision barrel, new hop-up and bucking. Recommend is the the CYMA AK47 Scope Mount for this rifle.

Next . . .
Brother, you either need to buy the MP40 or the MP44 and join the Fatherland!

listen, this gun will act like every other AEG with a barrel longer than 7". just because it looks the part does not make it a "sniper" rifle. contrary to popular belief, the barrel length has little to do with the accuracy. any length past 12" is just gravy. i have a VSR10 G-spec that has a barrel about 10" long and it will hit an 8" target at 75 Yards. my M16 with a barrel length of about 22" will hit an 8" target at 55 Yards. if you want to look good then great but as far as playability goes i could not emphasize enough against this gun for these reasons:

1. Too large and cumbersome. part of being a sniper is having the ability to maneuver to a position and set up before the enemy.

2. The brand A&K is a chinese brand. that said everyone here should know the quality issues.

3. Being a clone weapon means that aftermarket parts will fit half the time if not at all. a lot of knowledge is needed in order to modify the gun to fit aftermarket parts as well.

4. This gun will not preform as well as a stock TM or CA. i would equate this gun to a gun purchased at big 5. you will not be happy with the performance out of the box and you will spend more getting to a level on par with higher quality guns then you would if you wen with one to begin with.

If you want my opinion, get a mid range CA or TM. I'm gonna say it even though you already warned every one, but the AUG makes a great DMR as it has great accuracy and makes little noise. not to mention affordable and easy to upgrade. The G3 and M14 are other great alternative to the standard M4/16 variants.
