Derek,
A good amount of an AEG's noise comes from the gearbox and is amplified by a hollow hard stock attached to it. Remove the butt plate of your AEG, and pack your battery and wiring inside with close cell foam (the type they make camping sleep rolls from). Be sure that you are able to access your battery's recharging plug after the butt plate is replaced. Charging should NOT require the removal of the battery. You may also fill the fore-grip (as in an M4), which may reduce some of the amplified noise.
Overall, some AEGs are just quieter than others. The shorter the barrel, the louder the report. CA M4's have a ring to them that is clearly identifiable. Additionally, some repressors (silencers), are fake and used only to hide an extended barrel. Be wary of advertisers.
In the long run, spend less time on the trigger. It is much harder to locate the direction of a single shot or double tap, than from those individuals who needlessly blaze away. It is after all, 'the operator' who is the threat.
Good hunting.
Does anyone know where to get this close cell foam komissar is talking about?
