Effective Tactics

One the Battlefield i have witnessed several tactics that players get frustrated when the tactics don't just fall into place like in a movie or the Call of Duty video games the purpose of this Discussion is to answer your questions on tactics. That means any and all questions! By the Way is you notice i say something that is incorrect or a detail that i have over-looked please tell me so..... like all of us I too am still a student in the art or war

There is one tactic that seems to work almost all of the time and that is bull rushing or bum rushing a position. Ambushes seem to work well for maybe ambushing one group or person then you need to find a new spot or make a new tactic. I find flanking is another tactic that doesn't work all the time. Like war tactics don't always work out the way we plan them to work. There will almost always be a flaw or a casualty (I think I spelt that right...?) it is a rareity (at least in my case) where everything ends up perfectly. The majority of my successful tactics end up with minor mistakes or casualties.

Its kind of amazing this topic got posted 'cause I was intending to touch on this eventually. I was at AEX today helping a friend (who may join us at the next DRAEX field event) and talking to newcomers to the sport. While I'm a newcomer as well, I do know that the mission you look to take whether it be infantry, sniper, etc starts with the gun and ends with your attitude (or the other way around). Some people love the idea of playing the lone wolf sniper but when they get to the field they find that maybe its not really to their liking. Anyways, since I tend to be long winded, what I propose is one weekend we gather up everyone and work on a tactical school. Learn how to establish effective ambushes, how to properly use the flanking maneuver and keep it cohesive after taking casualties, hand signals and all the stuff that makes America's military function as the best in the world. The reason certain tactics are tried time and again on the airsoft field (like the flanking maneuver) is because they work in the real steel world. What sets us apart is the training.

The one thing to remember about tactics is: if you've thought of it, there's a 50/50 chance the other guy has done the same and built a counter offensive to it. The artful tactician will employ the little things more often than the large things. Read Sun Tzu's The Art of War to see how he saw the battlefield for an even deeper understanding.

Let me know who's interested, maybe we can meet at DRAEX or up where we had WW1. Like Psycho Medic said, we're all students in the art of war, but sometimes it seems like we're not on the same page (which would cause the flanking maneuver to fail)

Ahh the beauty of the internet, I have a small digital library of US Military manuals. I'm going to dig through what I was able to acquire and determine what is useful for the Airsoft Operator. Of them all I've looked so far, the one that will be most useful is the Visual Signals Handbook.

TEAMWORK!

Teamwork is a very effective tactic. For those in organized teams, or even those who run with a bunch of strangers, very rarely is any one person skilled enough to be a one man army. All the planning and organization of tactics is useless if you cannot work well with others. I think this speaks volumes to the sport's ability to teach communication and teamwork. As far as actual battlefield tactics go, i like to KISS (keep it simple...stupid). This allows tactics to change and adapt to the situation.

Read my post on the perfect airsoft team. While its not KISS, it does establish a simple ideology used by the team members: know your job and do it. The tactics will be designed around that teamwork.

anything that you gentleman would like to learn first hand? there are all kinds of different ways to approach a situation and even more ways to scrutinize a operation afterward....the greatest thing i was taught by drill instructors and combat instructors is: "simplicity= lethality"

another thing I see in the field quiet often is people panicking when the run out of ammo and they try and switch out mags and for them all hell breaks loose! i have some words of wisdom for these unfortunate souls: RELAX! just remember one thing "Slow is smooth; smooth is fast"
