There is no doubt that Desert vs. Woodland uniforms are one of the best team identifications we have. The problems occur when 20 operators show up in Woodland, and only 10 in Desert. From that point it is difficult to create a force balance.
One suggestion was to find a way to register the operators on the RSVP and allow them a uniform choice. However the original problem occurs when operators arrive who have not registered on the RSVP.
Requiring DC operators to bring both uniforms is a possibility so that they can dress to accommodate force balance is an option, but not a good one.
So far I have found it easier, and cheaper, to have operators bring both a cover and a shemagh, and distinguish the team by head cover. The problem with this is that not everyone brings both. Some groups only bring the cover knowing they will all be placed on the same team. If two or three groups do this then you have the original problem where the forces are 20 vs 10.
I really go to extremes to avoid using arm bands and colored tape to distinguish sides. (It's a personal thing).
Aside from supplying 15 shemaghs at substantial personal expense, which I have done, I have yet to remedy the problem.
Another option that is unlikely to work is to decide on the DC uniform for that month's event, and then notify all guests that they may not wear that uniform. Again, despite being an unfriendly way of treating operators who are guests to our field, many are likely to wear what they want despite the postings.
I look forward to any solutions that you may have. Additionally, I don't mind if you would like to suggest that the DC team wear their Desert uniforms for an event. In July several DC wore their Desert on the Saturday, Missions Day, because we had the team challenge on Sunday and wore our Woodland to that.
As more DC operators complete their Desert kits it will become easier to accommodate the option.
I will post this in the team area as well.-Komissar
